Many thanks for sharing your lovely home with us. We were so happy to have a relaxing week there.

The extras you left for us were much appreciated, as were the gorgeous flowers. Every time we went into the dining room the Phlox welcomed us with their perfume.

We thoroughly enjoyed being able to revisit areas nearby, and also chatting to the cows.

Wishing you much success and, yes, we’ll be back.

August 2023

We have had a relaxing and enjoyable stay in a wonderful spot, and many thanks for the extra day.

We may have spent more time down dales than up hills than we did 50 years ago, but the area retains its special peace and quiet which have endured through all our long acquaintance.

Thank you for welcoming us so warmly here. Perhaps the sun will come out for a last lingering view of the Howgills from the garden bench this evening.

I have had a wonderful, refreshing retreat at The Roost. I didn't touch the TV remote once - absolute bliss! You live in a wonderful part of the world.

Thank you for letting me stay in your beautiful cottage and I hope that I may visit again at some point.

Individual guest, July 2023

This was one of the most relaxing and easy paced holidays we have had in a long time.

Everything including the weather couldn't have been better.

Till we meet again.

Guests returning for their fifth stay, May 2023

How does one convey the immense pleasure of staying at The Roost?

The owners have clearly thought hard about every aspect of this delightful place. Their deeply rural cottage, with its own garden, is perfect for the kind of holiday which restores the soul.

Mid-April is the time of lambs, daffodils and blossom, the stunning views of fells and dales seen clearly in the spring sun. The roads are quiet, the area full of historical and architectural interest, there are endless walks, or simply sit and look at the view and listen to the birds.

At the end of the day, there are pubs and restaurants in which to eat or the excellently equipped kitchen at The Roost in which to cook. There is warmth and comfort. After supper, sit outside and watch the fading light. Then, take a soak with the divinely scented salts and handmade soap, spend time looking at stars in the ink-black sky, all before a silent night's sleep.

I could tell you so much more....but you really must find out for yourself.

April 2023, celebrating a significant Anniversary

Thank you for the beautiful stay, with the lovely touches (scones, chocolates + recommendations).

We’ve loved staying at The Roost. Luckily we had 2 nights of good stargazing too.

Wishing you all the best, and thank you again.

Short break, January 2023

We had a marvellous week staying in your cottage. This was also a great place to recharge our very worn-down batteries. The cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable, spacious, well equipped, quiet and with views to die for.

Thank you for putting so much tender loving care into making the cottage the comfortable place it is.

September 2022

Thank you for a lovely, relaxing long weekend stay at The Roost. We both felt that it was like staying in a home not in a holiday let. It is very well appointed and we enjoyed the treats that you left us, thank you. This all added to an excellent experience, we very much want to return. The weather even played nicely so ensuring that we returned home well rested and with our resilience tanks topped right up.

August 2022

We had such a lovely week in The Roost, thank you so much for looking after us so well. Although the end of the week did get extremely warm, it was just wonderful to see the Dales sparkling in the beautiful sunshine and blue skies – we are so lucky to have seen the landscape at its best. We found The Roost to be very comfortable, and well equipped – and it gave us so much pleasure every day to see the hills and watch the birds whilst eating breakfast and dinner. I especially enjoyed sitting outside reading my book (without the usual guilt of ‘jobs to be done’) at the end of the afternoons enjoying the peace and tranquillity in such a beautiful setting. We both feel very refreshed, even after the A1!!

We very much look forward to staying with you again.

Your accommodation was first class enriching our holiday. The plate of scones and tea laid set the tone of the week. Thank you for a happy relaxing time.

September 2021, introduced by previous guests

We absolutely loved staying at The Roost and will have no hesitation in going back to visit you both again. It’s a beautiful cottage nestled in peaceful countryside and so uplifting! We have been spreading the word with family and friends so no doubt you’ll have more visitors from the north east! We always take care of our holiday homes - just like we do as if it was our own home. We had a lovely holiday, your cottage is beautiful.

July 2021

We had a really good week in The Roost and must thank you for making it such a lovely place to stay. As I said, you have thought of everything and done the conversion beautifully. I do hope we will be able to make another booking and visit you some time in the future.

July 2021

We still have unfinished walks to complete in the area and hopefully can visit you again. We have very much enjoyed our stays at the Roost and thank you for your hospitality.

Short break, May 2021, returned October 2021 and again in May 2022

We remember our stay at Bowersyke so fondly and hope the other Lechladians enjoyed it as much as we did. It is a perfect place for walkers and nature lovers.

Stayed in May 2021, recommended to friends who stayed in September 2021

We had a wonderful time staying in your cottage. It was just perfect in every way. It is so well appointed and it had everything we needed.

Short break, May 2021, returned for 10 days August 2021 and again in May 2022

What a wonderful few days we had at 'The Roost'. It was most relaxing & a great base to explore the locality...and further afield. You are in a beautiful setting, the place has an immediately welcoming ambience and lovely views from all the windows. You are kind and caring hosts with an obvious love of the land and the natural world.

The extra special touches which we particularly appreciated were the vases of flowers, tablecloth & napkins, framed pictures & map on the wall, basic food items & delicious biscuits, local & eco-friendly toiletries & cleaning materials, and mown footpaths.
